City Licensing
Each year we try to improve our programs and policies. With this virtual enhancement of our licensing, we are confident you will find all the information needed in obtaining the proper license or permit for your activity. Business Licensing
If you are opening a business for the first time, you may want to apply in person so that you understand your liability, permits required for renovations, and see the Assessor regarding any personal property taxes.
Business License - Required by City of Lake Geneva Municipal Ordinance Chapter 18. This license is an annual license and costs $10 - Renewal Form Amusement License - If you have video devices, pool tables, dart games, juke box, or run a bowling alley Bartender License/Operator License - If you sell alcoholic beverages, you need to have a licensed operator on your premise at all times Massage Establishment License – required for any establishment that engages in any form of massage (coming soon) Provisional Operators - an operator’s license issued for 60 days while applicant completes Responsible Beverage Servers Course (see note below) Taxi Cab Driver License – required of any operator of a taxi cab or limo Taxi Cab Company License – required by any service dropping off and picking up with in the city limits Temporary Operator License - an operator’s license issued for 1-14 days for a special non-profit event Tobacco License - If you sell cigarettes or other tobacco products Information regarding the Responsible Beverage Servers Course: Not all responsible beverage server courses are taught by technical colleges, but most are. Other courses (TIPS, NRA, CARE, BarCode, Learn2Serve, Bartending College LLC) may be substituted for those taught at VTAE schools, as long as they have been approved by the Department of Revenue or the educational approval board. Make sure of this approval before enrolling in a responsible server course not offered at a VTAE school. Learn2Serve and the Northeast Technical College offer on-line courses.
Other Permits
Closing Out Sale Permit – this permit needs to be obtained prior to conducting an advertised sale or liquidation Direct Seller's Permit - required for door to door sales through the City. Please review Ordinance Chapter 18 for clarification Parade & Public Assembly Permit - for any special public events or parades Park Permit - for use or reservation of any public park Public Record Request - requesting an inspection or photocopies of public records Street Use Permit - for the use or blocking of any city street
Note - The City of Lake Geneva has an ordinance that regulates no business in City Parks unless a special permit is granted. A Direct Seller's Permit must be applied for in person at City Hall.
